The achievements of human cultures are collectively known as human civilization. The highest achievements of human civilization are commonly agreed to be the widely-respected science and its various subjects.
Through civilization, mankind has protected the safety and interests of humanity as individuals and as a group. Civilization has helped mankind in fighting against every challenge and flux coming from both nature and human society itself. The challenges and changes faced by mankind can arrive at any moment. Humanity has developed many specialized fields with which civilization has stabilized itself and health standard has risen. Astronomy, geography, literature, military science, politics, economics, mathematics, physics, psychology, architecture, arts, and musics are all examples of specialized subjects of human "science". Modern science has reached the point where mankind can "Embrace the moon of nine heavens above, and capture the turtle of five oceans below." Studies of oceanic depth, surveys of subterranean movements, and landing on the moon are no longer news. The unprecedented pace of scientific progress has even reached the point where some are now considering the previously unthinkable: rebuilding the human body from scratch. Mankind has indeed accomplished much in the realm of scientific technologies and materialistic civilization during the twentieth century. The important question facing mankind now is this: moral and ethical standards of our societies are plummeting. Moral degeneration of the world is getting worse day by day. Although this is not directly caused by the growth of science, we can at least say that science cannot solve the moral and ethical problems facing mankind. A cause for concern is that the achievements of human civilization can in fact be misused, and perhaps even be the tools for mankind's own destruction. Some products of high technology, such as atomic bombs, hydrogen bombs, neutron bombs, and chemical weapons, if put in the hands of the wrong people, may bring about the destruction of mankind within mere hours, perhaps even minutes or seconds. It is difficult to contemplate such foreseeable and catastrophic ending. It is also difficult to accept the tragedy of mankind's self-destruction should it ever happen. Humanity is slowly realizing the need for cleansing our own souls, refining our characters, purifying our societies, expanding our wisdom, and improving ourselves. Mankind is rediscovering religions in a new and elevated light. Jin-Gang-Dhyana and the teachings of Jin-Gang-Dhyana begin public dissemination within this global context. |
