VIEWS ON CHRISTMAS PARADE
XI

Sir,

In reply to Pastor Greg Monro's comments (Letter 8/12) I'm sure the majority of people understand that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, it is also about the Christmas spirit which I believe is a time to celebrate the good in people's hearts. A time to give and bring joy to others. A time to welcome all to our homes or community no matter what their creed or believe.

I think it was very gracious of Buddhists to come and join our celebration even though it's not something they believe in. They didn't come to change people's beliefs, but showed their tolerance and acceptance of other religions. Even though I don't believe in their beliefs I'd be happy to have them help celebrate my birthday as I believe Jesus would.

I also don't believe you should blame the organisers for not inviting you to speak at the parade. Perhaps you could offer! Also perhaps we might see you make an effort to enter a float in next year's parade or an opening nativity play! If you win a prize you could give it to a worthwhile charity.

It's easy to complain and make no effort, not like the "non-Christian groups", who worked so hard with the spirit of Christmas in their hearts. I don't think your comments are very Christian-like and God would be a little disappointed!

    Merry Christmas to all.

Rob Farrell,
Scottsdale
